I’m taking theology courses and it’s been better than expected. I’m learning a bunch of historical context, learning how to really study God’s word, and I’m learning the Christian lingo that many theologian uses. These classes are awesomeness, but there’s one class no one can prepare you for… Unexpected Life Events. A month ago I got a text from my mother in regards to her health. Sometimes she uses a breathing machine to help her rest at night. She recently had a sleep test done and the results aren’t what you want to hear. The doctors said any excitement can cause her to stop breathing. Being the woman of God, she is, she responded saying, “Well looks like I’ll be gone because I’ll be getting excited for Jesus!” She sent her children a text as if she was preparing her last will.
It kind of shocked me to receive that text. She expressed her love for her children, and asked us for forgiveness if she done any wrong in our lives. After reading the text I sat on my hotel bed and cried. I cried and I cried. I felt a knot in my throat and all I could say was, “God I Need Thee.” Even the thought of my mother dying really hit me. No class can teach you how to respond to an unexpected event. All I could say was “God I Need Thee.” The next unexpected event was just this month. I received news about one of my siblings going through a tough situation. The news perplexed me! My heart dropped and I felt the hurt my sibling felt. I was asked to pray for my sibling, but what prayer do you pray when you have no words!? How do you encourage someone when the unexpected happens!? The only thing I could do was fall to my knees and pray in the Spirit! My words were few, I prayed, “God I Need Thee, I have no words, Holy Spirit please help me.” John 14:6-But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. God’s word is truth! The Helper, the Holy Spirit, gave me such peace with the news from my mother, and He empowered me to call my sibling and pray. What’s unexpected to us, is not unexpected to God. I like theology classes and theology has its place, but only the Holy Spirit can keep you and help you through life’s unexpected events. You may read a 254 page book on how to cry out to God! You may listen to many sermons about how to cry out to God, but sometimes when the unexpected thing in life happens the only words you can cry from the deep despair of your heart is, “God I NEED THEE!!” I encourage you, don't wait for unexpected life events to happen to cry out, God I Need Thee! Know you need for the Father! You need Him for every breath you take. You need Him so that your brain may function. You need Him to keep sun rising and setting. You need God more than you know your need for God!
